Abstract

The study used rats as biological models. The range of normal values is an indispensable tool for experiments with animals, because they can evaluate the health status of the animal, while helping to detect differences in the behavior of the animal's physiological parameters during the experiments. However, few articles describe its normal physiological parameters. The objective of this study is to establish the values of the normal parameters of the main hematological and biochemical variables in rats raised and produced in the bioterium of the Jorge Basadre Grohmann National University. The study used data from 100 rats (Rattus norvegicus – Rattus rattus) in its five varieties represented by 20 individuals each variety, of both genders, 30 weeks old. The hematological parameters analyzed were: WBC, Neu, Eos, Bas, Lym, Mon, Gran, RBC, HGB, HCT, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, PLT, MPV, PDW, PCT. With respect to the biochemical parameters they were: Albumin, Glucose, Urea, Triglycerides, Globulin, Alkaline Phosphatase, Creatinine, GGT, GOT/AST, GPT/ALT, Total proteins, Uric acid. The results obtained were able to determine the hematological and biochemical parameters of the rats domesticated and reproduced in the bioterium, allowing a comprehensive analysis of the animal's health.
