Abstract

Finding substitutes for hydrocarbon fuels is one of the most important research focuses in science. Years ago, lignocellulosic residues were identified as efficient raw materials for the production of what is now known as ethanol. Thus, in this article, the objective is to obtain bioethanol from a fermented residual prickly pear in the Tacna region, justifying the use of this raw material because its residues are easily obtained and cost free. Through a fermentation process using Saccharomyces cerevisiae and subsequent distillation, it was possible to obtain bioethanol with a maximum alcohol content of 48° alcohol content; results that demonstrate the feasibility of taking the tests to specialized laboratories and obtaining even higher percentages of alcoholic purity.
