Impacto de la salud oral en la calidad de vida en pacientes adultos: Revisión de la literatura

Resumen
Objetivo: Determinar el impacto de la salud oral en la CV en pacientes adultos. Metodología: Se realizó una búsqueda exhaustiva de literatura científica en diversas bases de datos, incluyendo 50 estudios que cumplieron con los criterios de selección establecidos. Resultados: Se analizaron los principales hallazgos en relación con las dimensiones física, psicológica y social de la CV. Ello permitió identificar factores como el tipo de patología y el tratamiento odontológico recibido, los cuales influyen en la percepción de la salud oral y su relación con la CV. Asimismo, diversos estudios evidencian que la edad se asocia de manera directa con el impacto de la salud oral en la calidad de vida: en niños y adolescentes, por ejemplo, las caries dentales pueden generar dolor significativo y afectar el bienestar general; mientras que en adultos mayores, el edentulismo puede limitar la interacción social por sentimientos de vergüenza o inseguridad al hablar en público. Conclusión: La salud oral constituye un pilar esencial del bienestar integral; por ello, la atención odontológica no debe limitarse a la resolución de problemas clínicos, sino también considerar sus repercusiones emocionales, sociales y de autopercepción, con el fin de favorecer una mejor calidad de vida.
